Incheon Sejong Hospital (President Oh Byung-hee) is set to begin its role as a government-designated Regional Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease Center.

The hospital announced on Wednesday the 22nd that it was selected during the 2025 First Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease Management Committee Meeting convened by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Following a competitive evaluation of 71 medical institutions nationwide that applied through a public call, the committee approved the designation of 10 institutions—including Incheon Sejong Hospital—as newly appointed Regional Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease Centers based on their outstanding capabilities.

Regional Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease Centers provide 24-hour definitive acute care for patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases within their local communities. They are also responsible for post-discharge patient management, as well as regional education and public awareness initiatives.

In addition, these centers collaborate with the Central Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease Center (operated by Seoul National University Hospital) and metropolitan-level regional centers. Through this cooperation, they respond to localized community needs, receive technical support, and coordinate patient transfers to higher-level centers when necessary.

Incheon Sejong Hospital also serves as the Local Responsible Medical Institution for the Northeastern Incheon area, covering Bupyeong-gu and Gyeyang-gu.

As part of the Hye-won Medical Foundation, which operates Korea’s only specialized heart hospital, Incheon Sejong Hospital actively delivers essential medical services, including advanced treatment for severe and emergency cardiac conditions as well as heart transplantation. In 2024 alone, the hospital successfully performed 425 cardiac surgeries (both open-heart and non-open-heart procedures) and 15 heart transplants.

The hospital has also established strong cerebrovascular care capabilities, operating a dedicated stroke intensive care unit equipped with 24-hour patient monitoring systems comparable to those of an intensive care unit, with specialized medical staff on constant duty.

President Oh Byung-hee stated,

“As both a Local Responsible Medical Institution and a Regional Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease Center, we feel a profound sense of responsibility. By strengthening cooperative systems with related organizations, we will enhance accountability in essential medical services that directly affect the lives and health of our citizens, and do our utmost to provide high-quality, efficient medical care.”
